Breeds not allowed in the hold

Which cats and dogs are not accepted in the hold: brachycephalic and potentially dangerous breeds. And what to do if your pet is on the list.

Breed restrictions: brachycephalic and potentially dangerous breeds

Most international airlines keep lists of breeds they do not accept in the hold of a passenger aircraft. As a rule, these are:

Important! This information comes from the official Turkish Airlines website and is meant as a guide. In most cases it matches the rules of other international airlines, but it is not universal: some carriers (for example, Qatar Airways or Russian airlines) may have different rules.

If your pet's breed is on the list: air cargo

In these cases, the pet travels as air cargo:
  • the flight is on a cargo aircraft;
  • the animal does not fly on the same flight as its owner;
  • the paperwork goes through specialised agents;
  • separate customs and veterinary clearance is required in the destination country.
